CAS

Standing for Creativity, Action, and Service, CAS is one of the core components of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. It is built around the idea that we learn as much outside of the classroom as we do inside, and that experiences in a variety of different areas helps enrich our lives and our learning.

Please download your complete CAS Package and read the instructions below.

CAS Instructions

  • Print out your CAS package and put it in a 1” binder.
  • Read through your entire CAS package. Pay special attention to the learning outcomes and the learner profile; these are the key words that you will be expected to talk about when you meet with your CAS supervisor to explain your activities.
  • With your parents, read and understand the Honour Code for the IB Diploma at Colonel By. This section must be signed by you and your parents for your first CAS meeting. Once you have finished reading the package and showing your parents, you must also sign the TIPS FOR PARENTS section.
  • Complete the ranking of traits in the Learner Profile using the numbers 1-10. Please note that all numbers need to be used. 10 counts as most important, 1 as least important. The Learner Profile is considered to be central to the IB Diploma, so put some thought into your answers.
  • Your binder will need to have 6 sections in it. The first section should contain the printout of your CAS package, learning outcomes, and completed traits; the second is Fall IB1; the third is Winter IB1; the fourth is Summer; the fifth is Fall IB2; the sixth is Winter IB2.
  • At the beginning of each section, you need to put a CAS proposal sheet. Please note that your supervisor will be looking to make sure that you have proposed a minimum of 15 hours of activity in each of C, A, and S. You will also need to have at least 3 different types of activities in each of C, A, and S by the time you have finished CAS.
  • Your Write-Up/Reflection is the first part of your submission, then the picture, and then the CAS supervisor sheet.
  • When doing your write-ups, it is preferable that you type all information; if this is not possible, please make sure that your handwriting is very neat.
  • When in doubt about an activity, go see Mr. Harthun or your CAS supervisor. CAS supervisors will be given out in a few weeks.
  • The dates in the CAS package are rough guidelines; the IB Coordinator will visit your classes to inform you of when CAS meetings will be taking place, or check the calendar at www.ibcb.ca for information.
